Our school offers a Catholic education in a supportive, caring, family-like environment.  Class, group and individual teaching and school-wide activities are used to address the learning needs of all our students and utilise teacher strengths.

St John’s School, Ranfurly is an integrated Catholic School.  We are a small, rural school in the township of Ranfurly, catering for children from Year 0 – Year 8.  Student’s come from all corners of the Maniototo to St John’s School.
We enjoy a caring, family atmosphere and the gospel values lived by Jesus Christ are reflected in our everyday school life.

About our School

St John’s is a three classrooms, Catholic, integrated primary school, educating children from years 0 – 8 with a roll of 66 students. Established in 1945, St John’s is a Mercy school, blessed and opened by Bishop O’Neill. We take pride in our rich history and the strong connections built throughout generations of families of past pupils from our school. St John’s School has been described as a ‘hidden gem in the Maniototo’, and is located in the small rural town of Ranfurly in the Maniototo, Central Otago.

We strive to provide a school environment which upholds a strong sense of Catholic Faith and belonging for all students who are engaged and feel safe and happy in learning.

Our Values of respect, honesty and Catholic Faith inform all decisions made across our school.

Our Vision is to create confident, compassionate and resilient learners who reflect our school’s Mercy Charism and the teachings of Jesus.

The teachers and support team at St John’s are deeply dedicated and committed to creating a supportive, caring, family-like environment, where every child is valued and encouraged to reach their full potential.

St John’s School is set in park-like grounds, providing an ideal environment for education outside the classroom, as well as providing a stimulating free play area, equipped with a multi purpose all weather turf, a large rugby field, a junior and senior adventure playground and sandpit. We pride ourselves on being a rural school and having a strong connection with our wider rural community. We have a school farm named “Holy Paddocks” where local farmers help our students rear calves, sheep, lambs and chickens and harvest their honey.

St John’s School is incredibly lucky to have a supportive network of parents and a highly dedicated PTA group, who are very proactive in pastoral care, not only within the school, but also throughout the parish community.

Our school board, Principal, staff and PTA all work cooperatively to create this special and unique learning environment for our children, one of which we are all immensely proud.
